1. Parenthood is not one of those things that gets better with practice. It's always hard. At every stage. It's like trying to excel at something that you will always and forever be green at. Sigh.
2. Stage fright. I was watching a clip of the Tonight Show today featuring Phil Collins singing, In the Air Tonight. Questlove was on drums and after the performance Jimmy, Phil and The Roots were talking about THE epic drum part. Questlove admitted that he was so nervous he would blow it, he could barely wait for the crescendo. Questlove. Nervous. About a drum solo. I guess we all get a little unsure of our expertise sometimes. I'm going to remember that.
3. Speaking of The Roots, Things Fall Apart is one hell of a good album. Definitely on my list of all time favorites. If you haven't heard it lately, give a listen. It's as relevant now as it was then. The album was recorded between 1997-1999 and finally released in February of 1999. The LP was originally released with 5 different album covers meant to show humanity in its darkest hours. Famed art director Kenny Gravillis designed the covers, which went on to be heralded as some of the best album covers of all time.
