THESE 3 THINGS 130

These 3 Things

130

1. Delegating is for suckers. I should not be saying this. Every coaching client I've ever had has heard the exact opposite from me. Hire your weaknesses. Hire your weaknesses. True, we should all do that, but...I think I am just feeling particularly sour about this today, a day when I needed about 3 stunt doubles. So here's a little unsolicited advice to those wonderful folks who offer help when things get hairy.

A. Thank you. Really, we mean it. You are amazing for wanting to help in the first             place.

B. Only offer help if you actually really want to help. Not your version of help. What the person really needs help with. They might be the same thing, but probably         not.

C. Finish the task to completion. Questions are great and it's fine to need a little             direction, but if something goes wrong or you get stuck, finish the task. Don't ask if         it is okay if things have a different conclusion than the person you are helping                 intended. In other words, don't substitute baking powder for baking soda.

D. What we creative types do for a living is harder than we make it look. The juggling, the process, even the business end of things. Know that you most likely do not have a better way of doing things.

E. Expect gratitude but don't wait around for the parade in your honor. The parade is not coming. Not for any of us. That's not why we are here.

2. I bought a new pair of running shoes today. I am going to start running again. It's been about 5 years. There is no telling how this will go. Any advice?

3. I love when things arrive in the mail wrapped in tissue paper. It makes everything look precious. Even a jumbo size tub of wrinkle cream.

What did you learn today?
