1. It turns out Polly is indeed an excellent name for a doe, if one decides to take up residence in your backyard.
2. Much like dogs, deer use their tails to communicate. When my dad insisted that Polly the doe was wagging her tail at him, he wasn't far off. A gentle side to side wag is a sign that deer are relaxed and comfortable. Funny enough, my dad is 6'5" and about 275 lbs., so apparently Polly does not scare easy.
3. The song Do-Re-Mi (Doe-a-Deer) was written for the 1959 Rogers and Hammerstein musical, The Sound of Music. Maria was originally played by Mary Martin on Broadway. It wasn't until 1965 that Julie Andrews stepped into the role of Maria turning the character into a screen icon.
