These 3 Things

1. We fall apart when we feel safe. I've been learning and revisiting a lot about child development these last few days, as I watch my daughter and her friends head off to school. As I said yesterday, development is a life long process, for better or worse, and all the things that pertain to what the littles go through, also extend to adults. This is no different. Safety is why our families and partners can often see us at our worst. We feel a glimmer of security and bam, we let it all go. (Target must give a pretty safe vibe given all the tantrums that take place there - I'm obsessed). This is true for me and I learned today that as I get to the end of something that has been really challenging I begin to fall apart. Right before the phoenix, I implode. Not sure if knowing this changes anything. Freud would say, yes.

2. At 40 it is a well earned idea to make a list of all the things I don't do. In a conversation with a friend today about how great it feels to be 40 we both agreed that there are so many things we used to waste time caring about that now hardly ever cross our minds. She suggested at this point we have earned to make a proper list of all the things we don't do and carry it around for reference. That way we can just say, "As you can see here giving a shit about what my legs look like in shorts is #27 on my list of things I just don't do anymore."

3. I love it when friends surprise me at work! It's the BEST! Granted I do have a job where that is a bit easier to do then most, but a few friends surprised me at a class I taught last night and it was the best! It always feels great to have a few familiar faces in the room.
