1. Be an ally and support the sobriety + recovery of friends and family. I am in constant awe of my friends who are in recovery. It takes guts, discipline, and constant maintenance and to do it through parenthood, life, death, relationships, and just the drama of the every day is beyond commitment. A lot of the time I'm not sure how to offer support, but I learned today that listening to what it means to have a hard day and also asking how I can be a good friend on those days can be supportive.
2. Make friends with people that share the same trade and work. There is intense joy in discussing the way a particular paint brush feels in the hand, the opaque quality of a certain black paint, and the way a dye takes to a certain fiber. It is wonderful to geek out on these particulars no matter what your work. Find a few people to talk to about these things and keep them in your nest.
3. Walk around barefoot. It feels really good and has far reaching health benefits like improving sleep and posture, and it stimulates the nervous system.
