I found all of these feathers on or around our property, which makes the peacock feather particularly interesting. We don't have a peacock, there are wild ones in Marin, I have never seen one near our house. I kind of love all of that.

Going back to my These Three Things format today. Some days it's one things. Some days it's three.

1. A friend reached out today and mentioned that things must be going pretty well here, as I know so much about kids and I must know how to support mine during this time. I'll say this to everyone right now...NO, IT IS NOT. Being an expert in early childhood and adolescent development and a psychotherapist might mean that I KNOW how to make this better for my kid, but it doesn't mean I am ABLE to access that within myself right now. I'm not at the top of my game. It would be weird if I were. While I might be slightly better equipped than the average parent in certain areas, I'm blowing it left and right. Like all day long. Day after day. And it's okay. Some days it's just about surviving and not thriving. So three cheers to things being weird and me not being effective on the daily. I'm throwing a parade for myself anyway. We can build a virtual float together.

2. Yesterday was supposed to be Opening Day for the San Francisco Giants. I've always relied on sports to occupy my anxious mind and it feels strange to not have stats to pour over or anger to direct at any team that is not the Giants or the Yankees. We didn't make it a priority to get to games last season. That will change.

3. The last two weekends we have done nothing. Happily. I cannot remember the last time I didn't have to act as camp counselor organizing time schedules and activities on a weekend. Having to create something to do. Where to hike. When we were going. What we would do for lunch. What needed to get done before Monday. YUCK. I'll just say I'm learning exactly how much I enjoy not doing all that. And also, that when I don't do it, no one else does. And it doesn't seem to matter.
