ON THE RECORD: SIMON + GARFUNKEL BOOKENDS EDITION
I've been listening to this album as long as I can remember hearing music. It was one of the first albums my parents introduced me to and I still have the original pressing from their record collection. The album's release date was April 3, 1968 just 24 hours before the world was devastated by the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Bookends remains one of Simon + Garfunkel's most haunting albums. It's a mix of typical folk, experimentation, light heartedness and the heavy drama of the surrounding decade. It remains the duo's best selling album.
This album is on constant rotation in the studio these days and usually pops back in after the fall equinox and the weather begins to change. Hazy Shade of Winter remains my favorite song on the album. Give it a listen again. It's deeper than you think.
I put a winter spin on the classic black and white mod album cover and added a few of my favorite local designers along with an incredible limited edition T from my friends at Neve + Hawk. I also added a Spotify Playlist feature to the ON THE RECORD posts - follow the link below (#5) to listen to the album. In order of left to right:
