You may ask yourself why a woman living in Northern California would be obsessed with Winter hats. Agreed, it's a little bit odd, but out here in the mountains, our mornings can start around 40 degrees and turn into 80 by 2 or 3 in the afternoon. A warm winter hat is the easiest take on take off accessory to get me from the morning bus stop drop off, to yoga and my studio without having to bring 3 changes of clothes along. Each season I always try out fun new hats, but inevitably come back to this classic.

The Patagonia Synchilla Alpine Hat is kind of a miracle of warmth. I've had mine for nearly 20 years and used to wear it during the winters in our first SF apartment, which didn't have heat. It's not the most attractive hat, and certainly not the least, but it takes a good washing, is comfortable enough to sleep in on a camping trip and is 100% effective at keeping your bod warm.
I'm considering grabbing another this season to keep in the car. How nerdy is that?
If you have one , or go out and get one for yourself, let me know how it goes!
